To celebrate moving into their custom-built, brand-new headquarters in Dalgety Bay, Catalyst wanted a film that was going to show off not only the scale of the facility but also to highlight all the benefits of the space for their team and their clients. The ultimate way to do this is with a continuous, choreographed fly-through using a first-person-view (FPV) drone which gives a unique perspective that can’t be achieved any other way. The result is an engaging, informative, scroll-stopping video that shows off the facility at its best.
Production
The shoot was split into 4 scenes that were planned and choreographed to give us the best effect, allow for the best use of peoples time and also give us what we needed to transition between the shots in post-production. After a reccy shoot there was a tight plan for the flight path and then it was a case of ensuring everyone was in the correct position, knew their cue’s and most importantly - didn’t look at the camera!
During each take we had multiple hidden crew around each space on radio contact with the pilot and director. This meant we could tightly control the opening and closing of doors, pushing equipment, operating forklifts, machinery and AV equipment so that each space comes alive as the camera flies through.
Post-Production
This is where is all came together. The first stage was to stabilise all the footage from the FPV drone and conform the frame rate so we have the ability to have everything in slow-mo at any point. We then had to animate in 3D tracked text (including a whole lot of masking!) and then time-remapped the footage so it can speed up and slow down as required. Then it was onto colour grading, music selection and sound design to bring the whole thing to life.
The result is a highly engaging showcase of an amazing facility that we, and more importantly Catalyst, are hugely proud of!
